E.C.R.E.E. stands for Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence which was made popular by Carl Sagan on Cosmos. If Skepticism had a motto, this would be it and if Skepticism had saints, Sagan would be at the top of the list. In my tattoo I had a banner with “E.C.R.E.E.” written on it wrapped around a candle to represent “Science as a Candle in the Dark,” from Sagan’s book The Demon Haunted World. Carl Sagan is an extremely rich source for skeptically themed tattoos.
